The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has called on all eligible residents to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Epe Insights reports that the council chairman urged first-time voters, as well as residents seeking to transfer, replace, or update their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), to take advantage of the ongoing online registration exercise.
Hon. Animashaun described the exercise as an important civic responsibility that gives eligible citizens the opportunity to participate in the country’s democratic process.
She encouraged residents who have attained the voting age to register without delay and ensure they are qualified to vote in future elections.
The chairman also appealed to individuals who have relocated to Epe Local Government to complete the necessary transfer process so they can vote in their current place of residence.
She advised residents whose Permanent Voter’s Cards are lost, damaged, or require corrections to utilise the registration exercise to update their records.
According to her, every eligible voter deserves the opportunity to have an accurate and valid voter record with INEC.
Hon. Animashaun stressed that obtaining a valid Permanent Voter’s Card remains one of the most important civic responsibilities of every qualified Nigerian.
She noted that active participation in voter registration strengthens democracy by giving citizens the opportunity to make their voices count through the ballot.
The chairman urged residents not to wait until the closing stages of the exercise before completing their registration.
She explained that early registration would help reduce unnecessary delays and ensure a smooth process for applicants.
Hon. Animashaun also encouraged parents, guardians, community leaders, youth organisations, religious groups, and market associations to sensitise eligible members of the public on the importance of voter registration.
She observed that increased public awareness would encourage greater participation and strengthen civic engagement across Epe Local Government.
The council boss reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to promoting responsible citizenship and encouraging residents to participate actively in democratic activities.
She said democracy thrives when citizens willingly perform their civic duties and contribute positively to the development of their communities.
Community leaders welcomed the chairman’s appeal, describing voter registration as an essential step toward strengthening democratic participation at the grassroots.
Residents also acknowledged the importance of ensuring that every eligible voter possesses a valid Permanent Voter’s Card ahead of future elections.
Many encouraged young people who recently attained voting age to register and become active participants in the democratic process.
Stakeholders noted that broad participation in voter registration contributes to inclusive representation and encourages greater public involvement in governance.
The ongoing INEC online registration exercise provides opportunities for new voter registration, transfer of voting location, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, and correction of personal information where necessary.
Eligible residents were advised to complete the online registration process within the approved timeframe and follow INEC’s guidelines for the subsequent physical verification where applicable.
Hon. Animashaun reiterated that every registered voter has a role to play in shaping the future of the country through peaceful and lawful participation in elections.
She urged residents to encourage friends, neighbours, and family members who are eligible to register and obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards.
According to her, widespread participation in the registration exercise will strengthen democratic values and ensure that more citizens have the opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights.
The chairman concluded by calling on all eligible residents of Epe Local Government to seize the opportunity presented by the ongoing INEC voter registration exercise and contribute meaningfully to the growth of democracy through active civic participation.
