His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, has been officially invested as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU) at a ceremony held at Lagos House, Ikeja.
Epe Insights reports that the appointment, made under the Lagos State University Law of 2004 (as amended), marks a historic milestone as Oba Ogunsanwo becomes the first traditional ruler to occupy the position in the university’s history.
The investiture ceremony was presided over by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who described the monarch’s emergence as a significant step in strengthening the institution’s leadership structure.

Oba Ogunsanwo, a respected traditional leader, brings decades of administrative experience and community leadership to the role. His appointment is expected to further enhance the university’s governance and cultural connection to the people of Lagos State.
The governor noted that the choice of the Alara of Ilara reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusivity and recognition of traditional institutions in modern governance.

The Alara, in his acceptance remarks, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to support LASU’s vision of academic excellence and global competitiveness.
