The Lagos State Government has intensified plans to reintroduce the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise through a strategic engagement with Conference 57 and key stakeholders in the environmental sector.
Epe Insights reports that the meeting, convened by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, brought together top officials including the Honourable Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, to discuss modalities for effective implementation across the state.
Speaking on behalf of Conference 57, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa outlined critical strategies to ensure the success of the sanitation exercise. He emphasized advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and grassroots waste management re-orientation as key priorities.

Olowa stressed the need for intensified public sensitization through Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs).
He noted that engaging market leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders would strengthen participation.
He also highlighted the importance of operational efficiency, calling for improved coordination among agencies and logistics teams.
According to him, local government secretariats should serve as central hubs for planning and execution.

The chairman underscored the need for strict enforcement during sanitation exercises. He stated that compliance and accountability are essential to achieving cleaner and safer communities.
Participants at the meeting engaged in detailed discussions on enforcement strategies, awareness campaigns, and inter-agency collaboration. The session also addressed resource deployment for smooth execution.

Stakeholders expressed strong commitment to ensuring the success of the reintroduced sanitation exercise. They agreed that collective action is necessary to achieve sustainable environmental outcomes.
