In a major push to improve public health and school hygiene, the Lekki Local Council Development Area has expanded its monthly fumigation in Lekki LCDA to include all public schools within the council.

Epe Insights reports the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), approved the extension as part of the administration’s ongoing environmental sanitation strategy. According to the council, the move aims to create cleaner learning environments and safeguard pupils as the school term progresses.

“Our goal is to ensure healthier classrooms and safer playgrounds for every child,” the council stated.

For months, the monthly fumigation exercise has been concentrated on Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and major public facilities. However, with rising concerns around hygiene and disease prevention, schools have now been placed at the forefront of the operation.

“We are extending fumigation to public schools because prevention remains the strongest tool we have—especially when it concerns our children,” officials explained.

The Environmental Services Department confirmed that the expanded fumigation in Lekki LCDA will be executed in phases to guarantee thorough coverage across all schools. The department also assured residents that strict monitoring has been put in place to maintain safety before, during, and after the exercise.

According to the chairman, the initiative aligns with the council’s long-term commitment to reducing pests, mosquitoes, and other vectors that threaten community health.

“This administration is dedicated to creating a cleaner, safer and more hygienic environment for all residents,” Engr. Kasali affirmed.

The council urged parents, teachers and residents to support the initiative as part of the collective responsibility to protect public health and enhance the well-being of schoolchildren across Lekki LCDA.
