Students and some staff of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, were treated to an inspiring afternoon of learning and literary generosity on Wednesday, as a career seminar and book launch/donation event took centre stage at the institution’s main hall.

Epeinsights reports that the event, organised by the Author of Timeless Lessons from African Proverbs, Sanmi Falobi featured an engaging seminar and pep-talk session aimed at motivating students to boost their personal productivity and pursue their career aspirations with purpose and clarity.

In a show of support for youth development and education, 50 copies of the book were presented to the NIJ community including the library, selected students and staff.

The books were donated courtesy of Otunba TJ Abass, a media practitioner and founder of Eko Hot Blog who purchased and sponsored the presentation.

The interactive session offered students practical advice drawn from African wisdom and real-world professional experiences.

Attendees were encouraged to harness their unique talents, remain consistent in self-development and draw strength from cultural values.

“This is more than just a book donation, it is a way of sowing seeds into the minds of future journalists, communicators, and leaders. African proverbs carry timeless wisdom that can guide them on their journey” the convener remarked.

Speaking during a high-level session, NIJ Provost, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, described the gathering as one of the most significant moments, expressing hope that it will serve as a catalyst for global transformation.

“I am very happy to be here with you. This is one of the most important sessions that has come in my life, it is meant to inspire, strengthen, infiltrate and to build the world.”

Adefaye concluded his remarks by expressing optimism: “I do hope that at the end of the session, we all leave empowered to make a lasting difference.”

The Special Guest and Executive Director, Media Career Development Network, Mr. Lekan Otunfodunrin, urged young people to draw on African proverbs for wisdom and direction in their lives.

“There’s a lot to learn from the past to improve our lives today. We should not despise it—there’s wisdom in the experiences of those who came before us.”

In the same vein, the Guest Discussant and Head of Programmes at Punch Videos, Melony Ishola, captivated the audience with her passionate insights on how younger generations are shaping the future.

Ishola also addressed the concept of right and wrong, emphasizing that despite prevailing narratives suggesting otherwise, morality and integrity remain essential values.

Participants expressed appreciation for the session, describing it as both enlightening and empowering.

They also commended the initiative for reinforcing values that are crucial to students’ academic and professional growth.

The event concluded with group photographs and networking among attendees, leaving many with renewed motivation and a copy of the proverb-rich book to inspire their path forward.Students Receive Donated Books as Author Inspires at NIJ Career Seminar Students Receive Donated Books as Author Inspires at NIJ Career Seminar Students Receive Donated Books as Author Inspires at NIJ Career Seminar
