The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Wednesday conducted a fire safety drill for the management and staff of the General Hospital, Somolu, as part of the facility’s monthly Staff Assembly activities.
EpeInsights learnt that the session, held at the GOPD Open Arena, was designed to boost emergency preparedness and minimize fire risks within the hospital environment.
Leading the drill, Fire and Safety Officer, Mr. Odunayo Olukotun, explained that fires may result from accidents, arson, natural causes, or negligence, all of which thrive on the combination of oxygen, heat, and fuel.
He educated staff on the four classes of fire, ranging from combustible solids and flammable liquids to gas-based and metal fires, while demonstrating the appropriate equipment and techniques for control.
Olukotun alongside his colleague, Mr. Adeyanju Adetoro, gave practical demonstrations to emphasize the importance of prioritizing safety measures in a hospital setting.
Beyond safety, the hospital also used the assembly to sensitize staff on enrolling in Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) HMO packages and engaged them in wellness exercises aimed at boosting physical fitness.
The August edition of the staff assembly concluded with light-hearted moments, including a celebration of birthday celebrants and a “fastest finger” contest that saw winners go home with freebies.
