Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called for stronger collaboration and a cordial working relationship between the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to enhance the efficiency and development of ports within the state.
EpeInsights reports that during a courtesy visit by the NPA Board of Directors, led by its Chairman, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, at the Lagos House, Marina, on Monday, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that ports play a vital role in Lagos and Nigeria’s economy and therefore require sustained cooperation to deliver on the aspirations and promises of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“We have significantly solved the Apapa gridlock problem. Our government has been part of the solution to the Apapa and Tin Can ports congestion, knowing that it is in our collective interest to do so because these are national assets that generate revenue for the country,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu, who noted that 60 percent of road accidents in Lagos are caused by the carelessness of truck drivers operating around the ports, said his administration remains committed to improving safety, traffic flow, and infrastructure supporting port activities.
“We understand the vital role our ports play in Lagos and Nigeria’s economy because ports are critical assets. I believe we can do better if we work together,” he added.
“We are totally committed to supporting NPA to ensure that all of President Tinubu’s promises are realizable.”
In his remarks, Senator Adeyeye commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s efforts in resolving the Apapa traffic gridlock and for maintaining a positive relationship with the NPA.
“We are happy with what is happening in Lagos. This is the best environment we have seen in terms of community and government relations with the Nigerian Ports Authority,” Adeyeye stated.
“NPA enjoys a cordial relationship with its host community and the Lagos State Government and this is the state with the least problems.”
In a related development, Governor Sanwo-Olu has reiterated that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the real drivers of Nigeria’s economy, stressing the need to continue strengthening their operations.
He made the remarks while receiving the Director-General and CEO of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Mr. Charles Odii, who paid him a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.
Odii praised the governor’s consistent support for entrepreneurship and innovation, calling for continued collaboration to empower small and medium business owners across the state.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to sustaining policies and partnerships that promote business growth, job creation, and inclusive development.
