Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially inaugurated Ishokan 106.7 FM, the first local government-owned radio station in Nigeria, alongside other legacy projects executed by the Mushin Local Government.
EpeInsights reports that the Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, described the initiatives as commendable, urging other local councils to emulate Mushin’s innovative strides in community development and information dissemination.
“It’s important to communicate effectively with our people. This radio station and the centralisation of federal agencies in one location demonstrate true leadership,” Sanwo-Olu said at the commissioning ceremony held on Oliyide Street, Mushin.
He praised the local government chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye, for delivering projects that include roads, markets, and public facilities, noting that such infrastructure is often lacking even in some states.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated his party’s commitment to development under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and called on residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of upcoming elections.
“To stand by the President’s mandate, we need to participate actively in the democratic process. That starts with your voter’s card,” he said.
In his remarks, APC Lagos Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, disclosed that voter registration would begin next month, stressing the strategic importance of Mushin, which has 547 polling units—the highest in the state.
“Our projection is at least 250 votes per polling unit, which should translate to over 136,000 votes from Mushin alone,” he said, urging residents to mobilize and register.
Ojelabi lamented the number of party loyalists without PVCs, stating that enthusiasm without registration will not translate into votes.
Also speaking, former Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon highlighted the importance of consultation in governance, while Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, commended Bamigboye’s alignment with the state’s THEMES Plus agenda, describing the council’s performance as exemplary.
Chairman Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye, in his address, dedicated the projects to the residents and called on the community to protect and utilise the new infrastructure responsibly.
“Public projects thrive when citizens take ownership. We are committed to delivering even more impactful initiatives for Mushin’s growth and inclusion,” he said.
The event marks another step in the Lagos State government’s efforts to decentralize development and promote good governance at the grassroots level.
