Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development with the commissioning of several legacy projects in Bariga and Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

EpeInsights learnt that the projects were executed by the respective council chairmen as part of their efforts to improve infrastructure and services at the community level.

During his visits to both LCDAs, Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated a variety of facilities in Agboyi-Ketu, including the Otunba Bushura Alebiosu Multipurpose Building, a new community primary school, an ICT hub, the Oba Taiwo Adesegun Lamina Sports Centre, and a network of four roads. These projects were facilitated by the outgoing chairman, Hon. Dele Osinowo, who described them as his parting gifts to the people after eight years of service.

In Bariga LCDA, the Governor commissioned a legislative chamber, 21 roads, five primary health centres, three newly constructed primary schools, and a fire station. The council chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi, noted that the projects were designed to uplift the quality of life in the area and address key developmental needs. He also announced the renaming of some streets, including Community Road, which will now be known as Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road, in recognition of the Governor’s contributions.

Speaking at both locations, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the council leaders for delivering on their mandates and highlighted that all 57 councils in Lagos operate with full autonomy, receiving their statutory allocations without interference from the state government. He stressed that this financial independence enables councils to plan and implement projects that directly respond to the needs of their people.

He encouraged the incoming council administrations to build on the achievements of their predecessors and to aim even higher. The Governor also appealed to residents to take ownership of public infrastructure, ensuring they are well-maintained and used responsibly.

“As we commission these initiatives, let this be a reminder that our work across Lagos is ongoing. From Bariga to Badagry, Ikorodu to Epe, we are committed to building a Lagos that works for everyone,” he said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu closed by urging communities to remain engaged and proactive, assuring that the state government will continue to invest in grassroots development as part of its broader vision for a greater Lagos.
