Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has praised former Commissioner and seasoned public servant, Hon. Tunji Bello, for donating a multipurpose auditorium to Lagos State University (LASU), Epe Campus, describing the gesture as a timeless legacy of service and philanthropy.

EpeInsights reports that the Governor while speaking at the official unveiling of the facility on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, hailed Bello’s decision to mark his 60th birthday with a project that would impact generations of students rather than a lavish personal celebration.

“Today is not just about unveiling an auditorium; it is about celebrating vision, consistency, and service,” the governor said. “What Honorable Tunji Bello has done is beyond a building. This is a beacon of knowledge, a place for learning, discourse, and academic growth.”

The governor recalled that Bello had first expressed his commitment to education during his 50th birthday and had remained consistent with that vision.

He prayed for long life and strength for Bello, even joking that by his 70th birthday, he could be unveiling a university in his name.

Sanwo-Olu also extended his commendation to the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for his role in transforming Nigeria’s education sector and his donation toward improving electricity supply at LASU Epe Campus.

“We are grateful for Dr. Alausa’s contribution to LASU and for the progress he has championed in the nation’s education system,” Sanwo-Olu added.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to education, the governor revealed that the state would soon commission Nigeria’s largest university library, located at LASU. He encouraged other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Bello’s example, stressing that education is a collective responsibility.

“Government will continue to do its part,” Sanwo-Olu said, “but we call on private citizens to also give back to the community. Together, we can transform education for the next generation.”

The event was attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, and stakeholders who described the new facility as a symbol of visionary leadership and shared responsibility in building the future of education in Lagos State.
