The lawmaker representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Wale Raji, has urged his constituents to take a firm stand against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), describing it as a “deeply painful reality” that must no longer be tolerated.
EpeInsights reports that in a heartfelt message released to mark Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Awareness Month, Raji said the scourge continues to affect daughters, sisters, mothers, and even sons, many of whom suffer in silence.
“This must stop. No tradition, no culture, no excuse can ever justify the violation of another human being,” he said, stressing that the Epe community, known for its values and dignity, must rise in unity to protect the vulnerable and support survivors.
The federal lawmaker, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Livestock Development, pledged his continued advocacy for stronger laws to safeguard victims of SGBV, as well as support for community education, law enforcement, and outreach programs.
He, however, noted that legislation alone would not be sufficient to end the menace. According to him, real change must begin at home through conversations that promote respect, consent, and kindness. He called on parents to raise children who value empathy over ego and humanity over dominance.
“To every survivor reading this: You are not alone. You are not to blame. You deserve healing, justice, and peace,” Raji reassured.
He further charged residents of Epe Federal Constituency to remain bold, vigilant, and united in creating safe homes, schools, worship centers, and public spaces.
“Together, we can build a community where no one has to suffer in silence and where every voice is heard, protected, and valued,” the lawmaker added.
