As Lagos gears up for the highly anticipated local government elections on Saturday, July 12, all eyes are on Ikorodu, where federal lawmaker Babajimi Benson is earning widespread commendation for his impactful leadership and grassroots development efforts.

EpeInsights gathered that at a recent community outreach in the Ikorodu Division, political stakeholders and residents highlighted the tangible results of Benson’s tenure as representative of the federal constituency.

Speaking at the event, Professor R.I. Jinadu described Benson as a “model of responsive leadership,” emphasizing his people-centered approach and consistent delivery on promises.

According to Jinadu, Benson’s work in infrastructure, social welfare, and youth empowerment has gone far beyond rhetoric, setting a new standard for what representation should look like.

The outreach also served as a platform for civic education ahead of the elections.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Sesan Daini, used the occasion to stress the importance of active voter participation.

He warned against political apathy, noting that low turnout could jeopardize the future of the community by allowing unqualified candidates to emerge.

Daini called on residents to take ownership of the electoral process and show up at the polls with determination and unity.

Also present was APC chieftain Otunba Olasunkanmi Tijani, who reminded both aspirants and voters that public office is a duty, not a reward.

He emphasized that leadership should be guided by accountability and service to the people, rather than self-interest or political ambition.

To further energize the electorate, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled a mega rally for the coming Monday in Ikorodu. According to Otunba Tijani, the rally will focus on engaging the public with facts, plans, and a clear development agenda.

He described the event not merely as a political celebration, but as a strategic outreach to connect with grassroots voters and reaffirm the party’s commitment to growth and good governance.

With less than a week to the elections, Ikorodu stands at a critical moment.

Stakeholders across the division are united in their call for voters to come out in large numbers, exercise their civic duty, and ensure the continuity of credible leadership that puts the people first.
