Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated her commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), as Lagos State hosted the first leg of her three-day official visit.

EpeInsights gathered that at an interactive session held at the Lagos State Governor’s residence in Marina on Friday, the First Lady met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders and community representatives to review the impact of RHI across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led the Lagos delegation, described religious and traditional leaders as vital stakeholders in governance at the grassroots.

He praised Mrs. Tinubu for “bringing hope to the elderly, women, widows, and the less privileged without depending on government resources.”

Highlighting key interventions, Senator Tinubu disclosed that Lagos schools had received 100,000 educational materials, scholarships, laptops and classroom renovations under RHI.

She added that 20 women were empowered with financial support for smart agriculture, while over 1,000 women in each state were given ₦50,000 business grants alongside equipment such as freezers, ovens and grinding machines.

On healthcare, the First Lady announced initiatives to vaccinate children against cervical cancer, raise awareness on tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, and provide Lagos with a long-term supply of sanitary pads for schoolgirls under the Flow With Confidence campaign.

She also revealed ongoing empowerment schemes for widows, orphans of fallen soldiers, and persons with disabilities.

Traditional rulers, led by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, commended her interventions but urged the First Lady to push for constitutional recognition of Lagos’ 37 Local Council Development Areas to better serve its growing population.

Mrs. Tinubu, in response, thanked leaders for their support, stressing that the Renewed Hope Initiative would continue to focus on real people and real needs.
