In a major step toward mitigating environmental threats in Lagos’ coastal belt, the administration of Hon. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (RBK), Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has secured critical support from the Dangote Group to address the growing challenge of ocean surges and erosion in affected communities.
EpeInsights learnt that the commitment followed an on-site assessment tour by a Dangote Group delegation, which visited the Apakin, Otolu, and Okun Ise communities areas that have suffered significant damage due to encroaching tidal waters.
The Dangote Group pledged assistance in the sand-filling of the erosion-prone coastal zones. The intervention is expected to help protect homes, restore eroded shorelines and prevent further displacement of residents in the area.
“This partnership could not have come at a more urgent time,” said Chairman Kasali.
“What we face here is more than an environmental threat—it is a humanitarian crisis affecting livelihoods, family safety, and the continuity of entire communities.”
He described the corporate intervention as “lifesaving” and emphasized its alignment with ongoing local government efforts to bolster climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure in riverine areas.
The visiting Dangote officials applauded Chairman Kasali’s proactive response to the coastal erosion crisis, describing the collaboration as a model for effective public-private partnerships.
“Corporate responsibility is not just about business,” the delegation noted.
“It is also about investing in the stability and survival of the communities in which we operate.”
Chairman Kasali added that the support would serve as a foundation for broader environmental reforms within Lekki LCDA and commended the Dangote Group for stepping forward at a time when decisive action is most needed.
“This is more than a visit; it’s the beginning of a meaningful, results-oriented partnership to restore what nature has threatened to erase,” he said.
The development highlights an increasing recognition among stakeholders of the urgent need to address climate-related challenges through collaborative, multi-sectoral strategies.
