The royal family and entire community of Odo Noforija in Epe Division, Lagos State, are mourning the passing of Princess Susana Ayodele Shafau Ogunlaja, fondly known as Iya Oba, who died peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 86.
EpeInsights reports that a prominent member of the Ogunbotu Ononlu Alagbo Ogunlaja of the Oligbe Ligbe Ruling House in Itun Oligbe, Princess Ogunlaja was known for her quiet dignity, unwavering faith, and lifelong commitment to service.
She was a teacher by profession and a devoted Christian whose legacy of humility, generosity and grace impacted generations within and beyond her community.
Her transition was formally announced by her son, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Ogunlaja, the Aladeshonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo Noforija Kingdom.
In his tribute, the monarch described her as a beacon of light and love, a spiritual guide, and a mother to many.
Her contributions to family life, moral upbringing and community support were praised as enduring legacies that would remain long after her passing.
Funeral activities to celebrate her life and legacy will commence with a wake keep on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Ogunlaja Royal Family House in Itun Oligbe, near the Aladeshonyin Palace in Odo Noforija.
The funeral service and interment will follow on Saturday, August 30, at the First African Church Mission, St. David’s Parish, Odo Noforija Kingdom. After the burial, a reception for guests will be held in the open field beside the Aladeshonyin Palace.
A thanksgiving service will conclude the ceremonies on Sunday, August 31, at the same parish.
