President Bola Tinubu has officially commissioned Phase One, Section One of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

EpeInsights reports that the completed 30-kilometre stretch marks the beginning of what is set to become one of the country’s most significant transport corridors.

During the inauguration ceremony held on Friday, President Tinubu also virtually flagged off several other landmark road projects, including the Ibadan-Ife–Ilesha–Akure–Bayelsa–Benin roads—further demonstrating his administration’s focus on strategic connectivity and development across regions.

The President didn’t mince words when addressing issues around building violations along infrastructure corridors. He issued a clear warning to property developers encroaching on federal right-of-way, saying they should expect no compensation for illegal structures.

“We must respect infrastructure setbacks. The law will take its course,” Tinubu declared.

He also challenged contractors to prioritize local capacity-building by ensuring Nigerian engineers are part of project execution.

“It’s not just about building roads, we must transfer knowledge and empower our local workforce,” he added.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, echoed the President’s sentiments, highlighting the progress made under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He pointed to job creation, improved connectivity and expanded economic opportunities as some of the key benefits the administration’s infrastructure drive is already delivering.

The event was graced by several high-profile figures, including Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babagana Zulum (Borno) and Hope Uzodinma (Imo), along with Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, who lent his symbolic support to the project.

This mega project, when completed, will connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.

It’s designed to be more than just a road—it’s a gateway to trade, tourism, and transformation for communities along the coast.President Tinubu Flags Off Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sets Sights on National Connectivity
