The Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO) has commenced its 2025 inspection exercise with a working visit to the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), as part of its ongoing oversight of parastatals, agencies and government-owned companies in the state.

EpeInsights reports that the inspection team, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatals Monitoring, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, visited the Commission’s office at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

He described the visit as a strategic move to deepen collaboration, align with the state’s development agenda, and address operational challenges that may hinder efficient service delivery.

Obanikoro acknowledged the pivotal role of the Sports Commission in driving the state’s youth development agenda, talent discovery and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

He commended the Commission’s efforts in organising tournaments, rehabilitating sports facilities, and engaging communities at the grassroots level.

“The Lagos State Sports Commission holds a central place in the actualisation of the government’s vision,” he said. “We are aware of the challenges you face, be it infrastructure, funding, inter-agency coordination, or workforce limitations. This visit offers an opportunity for honest conversations and joint problem-solving.”

He also emphasised the importance of sports in the THEMES Plus development agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, stating that facility inspection ensures the proper maintenance and optimal use of government assets, particularly for youth empowerment.

In his response, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, welcomed the PMO team and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaborative governance. He said the visit underscores the state’s focus on building a stronger, youth-driven sporting culture.

“We remain committed to promoting sports development, discovering talents, and fostering social cohesion,” Fatodu stated. “This visit will yield valuable insights and recommendations to guide our operations and improve service delivery across the state.”

He thanked the PMO for its proactive approach and expressed optimism for sustained synergy in achieving the shared goal of a healthier and more inclusive Lagos through sports.
