Some indigent patients at the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital (FGGH), Iyun, Surulere, have received critical paediatric support from the Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and the Orunsi Welcare Foundation.

During a visit to the hospital on Tuesday, Dr. Sanwo-Olu and officials of the Foundation donated gift items tailored to aid the speech recovery of young beneficiaries.
The initiative forms part of a Paediatric Surgery Support Programme targeted at children whose families cannot afford the cost of medical interventions.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady emphasized the importance of leadership by example, noting that her office partners with organizations like Orunsi Welcare Foundation due to their deep commitment to caring for vulnerable children and the elderly.
“My office, through the Senior Citizens Visitation Programme, continues to support the less privileged across Lagos. These efforts are designed to make people feel valued, especially in their most difficult moments,” she said.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu also commended the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her passion and leadership in programmes focused on elderly care and other humanitarian causes.
She described the visit to FGGH as a “prayer answered” for the patients, revealing that the hospital was not initially scheduled for the visit. “This shows our shared mission—to bring hope and relieve families of financial and emotional strain during medical challenges,” she added.
The First Lady called on stakeholders, corporate bodies, faith-based institutions, and civil society groups to collaborate with initiatives that ensure no child is left behind due to medical or financial constraints.
“As the First Lady of the State, I remain deeply committed to supporting initiatives that uplift our communities and secure the well-being of our children and the elderly,” she reaffirmed.
Medical Director/CEO of the hospital and a member of the Welcare Foundation, Dr. Olumide Sojinrin, expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s visit and described it as a significant morale boost for both patients and staff.
He also highlighted the Foundation’s commitment since 2021 to tackling urgent health challenges, including mental health and wellbeing.
Present at the event were the Deputy Medical Director, Dr. Olufade Mathew; Head of the Social Welfare Department, Mr. Mojeed Olabode; other members of the hospital’s management, and staff.
