In a bold move to bridge the digital divide and equip young learners for the challenges of the modern world, the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, in partnership with Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), has distributed computer tablets to Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) students across public secondary schools in the council area.
EpeInsights learnt that the initiative, powered by the Mastercard Foundation’s education support programme, was officially unveiled at a ceremony held at the Ibeju-Lekki Council Secretariat, Igando-Oloja, on Friday.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, Professor Enase Okonedo, was Dr. Frank Wiggle, Head of Community Relations, who led the PAU delegation to present the devices to students from six public secondary schools, including Ibeju Senior High School, Iwerekun Community High School, Orimedu Community High School, Magbon Alade Grammar School, Community Senior High School Debojo, and Community Senior High School Akodo.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, commended the university and its partners for their forward-thinking gesture, describing it as “a transformative partnership that mirrors our shared vision for the future of education.”
“Education in the digital age goes beyond memorizing facts; it is about creativity, critical thinking, and innovation,” Hon. Olowa said. “By introducing these tools, we are not only empowering our students but positioning Ibeju-Lekki as a model for modern learning.”
He urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the tablets for academic advancement and self-development, emphasizing that discipline, curiosity, and integrity remain the true pathways to success.
“Use these tablets wisely. You are the future of Ibeju-Lekki, and your attitude towards learning will determine how far you go,” he advised.
Other dignitaries present, including traditional rulers, education administrators, religious leaders, and political stakeholders, praised Hon. Olowa for his unwavering dedication to youth empowerment and education reform. They described his leadership as practical, inclusive, and visionary, particularly in driving initiatives that connect education to real-world skills.
The event also had in attendance the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Oluwafemi Olayinka; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. Maruf Issa Olayinka; His Royal Majesty, Oba Waliu Olasunkanmi Oguntolu, the Onibeju of Ibeju Land; a representative of HRM Oba Yisa Toheeb Abidemi Oyedele; APC Lagos East Senatorial District Youth Leader, Hon. Gbenga Balogun; and CAN Chairman, Rev. Matthew Ameh, among others.
