In a deeply symbolic act of reverence and continuity, the Olu-Epe-Elect, High Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro, paid homage at the tomb of the late Oba Dr. Shefiu Adewale Bamgbopa Eshilokun I, pledging to uphold the values and traditions of the revered monarch.

EpeInsights reports that the solemn visit, which took place shortly after his installation by the kingdom’s council of kingmakers at the historic First Epe Central Mosque, marked an important spiritual and cultural rite of passage for the incoming ruler.

Standing quietly at the burial site of his predecessor, Chief Odedeogboro offered prayers and sought ancestral guidance for the responsibilities ahead. “Kabiyesi, thank you for trusting me,” he said, visibly moved.

“I promise not to depart from the path you have laid. I will carry forward your legacy with honour and wisdom.”

Earlier in the day, he visited Alhaja Aribike Adewale, widow of the late monarch, offering his condolences and acknowledging her years of unwavering support to the crown.

“Your strength and devotion are written in the heart of this kingdom,” he said. “May the Almighty grant you fortitude during this period of transition.”

Oba Shefiu Adewale Bamgbopa Eshilokun I, the 19th Olu-Epe, passed away peacefully in Lagos on May 31, 2025, at the age of 87. His reign is remembered for fostering cultural pride, peace, and development in the Epe Kingdom.

Senior Council Member, Chief Rafiu Akinbowale, who accompanied the Olu-Epe-Elect, described the visit as a reflection of humility and respect for tradition.

“This is how a true leader begins. It shows that he understands the soul of our people and the sacredness of the stool.”

Residents of Epe expressed hope and optimism as the community prepares for a new chapter.

“We’re still mourning the loss of our beloved Kabiyesi,” said Mrs. Mopelola Shofolahan, a longtime resident. “But seeing the new Olu-Epe begin his journey with such reverence gives us comfort that our heritage is in capable hands.”Olu-Epe-Elect Pays Homage to Late Monarch, Vows to Preserve Royal Legacy
