History was made in Ibeju-Lekki on Saturday, September 6, 2025, as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) inaugurated its 91st branch, further cementing the area’s rising status as an industrial and professional hub.
EpeInsights gathered that the event, themed “A Sustainable New Lagos: The Role of Engineers,” drew dignitaries from across the country, with the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, in attendance as Special Guest, alongside Hon. Bayo Balogun, Member of the Federal House of Representatives.
In his welcome address, Hon. Olowa described the inauguration as “a defining milestone in the history of the engineering profession in Nigeria,” noting that the creation of the Ibeju-Lekki branch of NSE was both timely and necessary.
“With the establishment of the Lekki Free Zone and the Lagos Free Zone, this corridor has witnessed a rapid influx of manufacturing, industrial, and maritime businesses. Naturally, these developments have attracted a large pool of engineers and other professionals, making the formation of the NSE branch not just relevant but essential,” Hon. Olowa stated.
The President and Chairman-in-Council of NSE, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala FNSE, commended Hon. Olowa for his support and active role in the establishment of the branch, describing the milestone as a reflection of Ibeju-Lekki’s fast-paced urbanization.
“The inauguration of the 91st branch is a direct response to the yearnings of development and an indication of the critical role engineers play in shaping modern societies,” she added.
During the ceremony, Engr. Olufemi Dare FNSE, FNICE, a seasoned project management professional with over 25 years of experience in infrastructure development, was inaugurated as the pioneer Chairman of the NSE Ibeju-Lekki Branch. He was joined by newly inaugurated executive members who will drive the activities of the branch.
The NSE, established as the umbrella body for the engineering profession in Nigeria, continues to set high standards of professionalism and ethics. Through innovative programmes and advocacy, the society has contributed significantly to national development, while fostering the professional growth of its members.
With the inauguration of its newest branch, the society has not only expanded its reach but also reinforced Ibeju-Lekki’s emerging role as a key player in Nigeria’s technological and economic transformation.
