The Oba of Lagos and Permanent Chairman of the Lagos Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has once again emphasized the urgent need for the federal government to equip security agencies with modern tools to combat the rising wave of insecurity across the country.

EpeInsights gathered that the revered monarch made this call on Saturday when he received the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) and wife of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun at his Iga Idunganran palace on Lagos Island.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, Oba Akiolu described policing as a “herculean task” that demands both commitment and resources.

He urged the federal government to ensure that the police and other key security bodies are adequately supported with logistics and equipment to carry out their duties effectively.

“The task of policing is not easy. I urge the federal government to provide police and other security agencies with the tools they need to carry out their duties. Security agencies like the NDLEA and NAFDAC are doing their best, and I believe the police can achieve even more with proper support,” he said.

The Oba also commended the current Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, for introducing new crime-fighting strategies in the state and encouraged him to keep guiding his officers to remain professional and civil in their duties.

“Continue to lecture your men to be good to the public. Be truthful, avoid greed, and don’t misuse your authority,” Oba Akiolu advised.

He didn’t stop there. Addressing the POWA President and her entourage, Oba Akiolu encouraged police wives to be pillars of support for their husbands and urged all Nigerians to take an active role in supporting the government’s efforts toward national security.

“We all have a part to play in ensuring security. Parents should teach their children the fear of God. And tell your husbands to plan and save for retirement,” he added.

In her remarks, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun expressed her gratitude to the Oba for his unwavering support, particularly during POWA’s recent three-day national conference held in Lagos.

“We’re here to say thank you, Kabiyesi, for your prayers and support during our conference. It means a lot to us and shows how much you care for us,” she said.

She noted that the conference provided members with training on how to showcase their talents and use them to contribute positively to society.

Dr. Egbetokun was joined by her husband, CP Moshood Jimoh; his wife, Mrs. Riskat Jimoh; and several other wives of top police officers.

The visit was a symbolic moment of mutual respect between Nigeria’s traditional leadership and the law enforcement community, reinforcing the need for collective action and support in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
