The Lagos State Government has arrested a man in the Iju Station area of Ifako-Ijaiye for converting his home into an illegal slaughterhouse, just days after the closure of the Oko-Oba Abattoir in Agege.

EpeInsights reports that in a statement released via social media, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest on Monday.

He explained that officials from the state’s enforcement unit, Kick Against Indiscipline, acted swiftly on a tip-off from a concerned resident.

A viral video shared by the commissioner shows the suspect being led away by officials—angrily lashing out in Yoruba and threatening his neighbours.

“If I come back, you will accept GOD as your boss,” the man says, while being escorted into a government truck.

The illegal activity was carried out at number 12, Alfred Williams Street, right in the heart of Iju Station.

According to Wahab, the suspect had turned his home into a slaughter facility, posing major risks to public health and the environment.

This move, he said, was not only illegal but also dangerous, especially in a residential area.

“The property owner was profiting from this reckless operation. Our swift action shows we will not tolerate environmental violations—anywhere in Lagos,” Wahab stated.

The premises have since been sealed, and the man is now in custody.

This crackdown comes on the heels of the recent shutdown of the Oko-Oba Abattoir in Agege, where the state government flagged environmental infractions and poor operational standards.

During a recent inspection, Wahab described conditions at the abattoir as unacceptable, vowing tighter enforcement moving forward.

He urged Lagosians to remain vigilant and report illegal practices that threaten community health and the environment.

“Your vigilance makes our work possible,” he said. “Together, we’ll build a safer, cleaner Lagos.”Oko-Oba Abattoir in Agege
