In a significant political shift ahead of the upcoming local government elections, several members of the Labour Party in Lagos have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alignment with the party’s development agenda.
EpeInsights reports that the defection took place during a vibrant rally at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (formerly Onikan Stadium), drawing party faithful, APC leaders, and supporters across the Lagos Central zone.
Leading the wave of defections was Femi Badia, Chairman of the Labour Party in Apapa Local Government Area, who announced his decision alongside dozens of others to embrace the APC platform.
The move, he said, is rooted in appreciation for the leadership strides of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governance style of the APC at both state and federal levels.
“We’ve seen the transformative policies and infrastructure growth under President Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The APC represents the path forward for Lagos, and we want to be part of that progress,” Badia declared to a cheering crowd.
Party leaders welcomed the defectors warmly, describing the development as a “strong signal” of growing confidence in the APC’s capacity to deliver good governance and win the forthcoming LG polls.
The Lagos APC campaign council described the mass defection as a strategic boost, pledging inclusivity and opportunities for all members to contribute to the state’s development agenda.
As political momentum builds, this realignment is expected to further energize the ruling party’s base ahead of what is shaping up to be a competitive local government election season in Lagos.
