In a renewed effort to strengthen local food production and empower farmers, the Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has sponsored a group of tomato farmers for specialized training on modern tomato farming, fertilization techniques, and pest control.

EpeInsights reports that the initiative, facilitated by the Office of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), is part of the council’s broader agricultural support programs aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and improving the livelihoods of local farmers.

According to the council, the training will equip participants with advanced knowledge and hands-on techniques that can significantly increase tomato yields while ensuring sustainable practices.

Farmers are expected to apply the skills acquired to expand their productivity, improve produce quality and contribute to food security within the LCDA and beyond.

Speaking on the program, Engr. Kasali reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting grassroots farmers with innovative initiatives that directly impact food supply and economic growth.

“Our farmers are the backbone of food security, and we must continue to support them with knowledge, resources, and opportunities that will help them thrive. This training is one of the many steps we are taking to ensure higher productivity, better market value, and reduced losses for our farmers,” the Chairman said.

He further emphasized that agriculture remains a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda, with a focus on empowering farmers, creating jobs, and boosting the local economy.

Farmers who benefitted from the program expressed appreciation to the council for the opportunity, noting that the training would help them adopt new techniques that could transform their farming outcomes.

The initiative adds to a series of agricultural interventions by Lekki LCDA under Engr. Kasali’s leadership, aimed at tackling challenges in food production while promoting self-reliance among residents.
