In celebration of the 2025 World Sight Day, the Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has organized a free eye screening and treatment outreach, offering residents access to essential eye care services, free medications, and eyeglasses.
EpeInsights learnt that the event, themed “Love Your Eyes: Vision for Everyone,” was held in partnership with the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) and aimed at promoting preventive eye health and raising awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), emphasized that the initiative reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to community health and well-being. He noted that visual health is a critical component of overall quality of life and pledged to sustain health-focused programs that directly impact residents.
“Good vision is essential to productivity and quality of life. Through this outreach, we are ensuring that our people not only have access to free eye screening but also receive the necessary treatment and support to protect their sight,” Engr. Kasali stated.
Residents who benefited from the free exercise expressed their appreciation to the Council, describing the initiative as thoughtful and impactful. Many participants noted that they were able to access professional eye examinations for the first time, thanks to the Council’s intervention.
Also present at the event was the Immediate Past Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Barr. Mukandasi Olaitan Ogidan, who commended Engr. Kasali’s administration for sustaining people-oriented programs and lauded the initiative as a testament to responsive and compassionate governance.
“It’s inspiring to see this continuity of care and commitment to residents’ well-being. This effort truly embodies what grassroots leadership should represent,” Barr. Ogidan remarked.
The World Sight Day is a global observance dedicated to focusing attention on blindness and vision impairment. This year’s theme “Love Your Eyes: Vision for Everyone” underscores the importance of equitable access to eye health services and the need for individuals to prioritize regular eye checks.
