In commemoration of World Sight Day 2025, the Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has announced a series of activities aimed at promoting eye health and preventing avoidable blindness among residents.

EpeInsights gathered that the event, themed “Love Your Eyes: Vision for Everyone,” was being organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) and will hold on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Activities for the day include a “Walk for Sight” scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by free eye screening sessions at designated centres across the LCDA from 10:00 a.m.

According to the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), the initiative underscores the Council’s commitment to preventive healthcare and community wellbeing.

“We are proud to partner with the Nigerian Optometric Association in this life-changing exercise. Good vision is vital to productivity and quality of life and we are encouraging all residents to make use of this opportunity. Everyone deserves healthy eyesight,” he said.

Kasali urged residents to not only participate in the screening exercise but also spread the word to friends, family, and neighbours, emphasizing the importance of regular eye check-ups.

The World Sight Day campaign, celebrated annually on the second Thursday of October, focuses on creating global awareness about blindness and vision impairment and the need for accessible, quality eye care for all.

The Council’s Media Office noted that the Walk for Sight will bring together healthcare professionals, community leaders, civil servants, and residents in a show of solidarity for the cause of vision health.

Lekki LCDA’s collaboration with the NOA further reflects its ongoing efforts to promote health initiatives that address local needs and strengthen the healthcare delivery system within the council area.
