The Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), has officially flagged off the electronic birth registration (e-birth registration) exercise in the council to strengthen child data management and national planning.
EpeInsights reports that the event, held at the council secretariat, witnessed the presence of top officials of the National Population Commission (NPC), led by the Controller, Mrs. Badmus.
As part of the program, Engr. Kasali handed over digital gadgets to the NPC team for a three-day sensitization and training exercise.
These devices will be used by trained facilitators to capture and register births electronically, ensuring that every child within Lekki LCDA is properly documented in the national database.
According to the Executive Chairman, the initiative is a timely intervention that will not only improve birth registration coverage but also enhance Nigeria’s future planning in education, healthcare, and economic development.
“Accurate data is the foundation of good governance. By ensuring that every child is registered from birth, we are giving them an identity and a future,” Engr. Kasali stated, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the success of the program.
The e-birth registration project is expected to significantly reduce the number of unregistered children in the area, a challenge that has historically limited access to basic services and hindered policy implementation.
The sensitization campaign will also engage parents, guardians, and community leaders to understand the importance of timely registration of children.
Residents and stakeholders commended the initiative, describing it as a bold step towards building a more inclusive, data-driven, and secure future for children in Lekki LCDA and beyond.
