The Lagos State University (LASU) Senate, in a virtual meeting held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, has announced the suspension of all academic activities including the 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations, originally scheduled to commence on Monday, August 4, 2025.
EpeInsights reports that this decision follows the industrial action declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Staff Unions on July 31, 2025.
The JAC is made up of the LASU chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
During the meeting, the Senate reviewed the status of ongoing negotiations and the industrial action report, noting that the core demands of the Joint Action Committee are directed at the Lagos State Government.
The University Management has been actively facilitating dialogue between the unions and the State Government over the past few weeks.
On Friday, August 1, 2025, a key meeting was convened by the Lagos State Government involving University Management, representatives of the Joint Action Committee, officials from relevant ministries and was chaired by the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, at the office of the Head of Service in Alausa, Ikeja.
It was agreed during this meeting that further consultations would take place, with all parties set to reconvene on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
After thorough deliberation, the Senate resolved to suspend the 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations and all other academic activities until further notice.
Additionally, all students residing in the university hostels across the Ojo, LASUCOM, Epe, and Badagry campuses are directed to vacate the hostels no later than 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Members of the LASU community, especially students are urged to remain calm and law-abiding during this period.
