In a decisive move to ensure seamless mobility and public safety across Lagos State during the busy festive months, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rolled out a comprehensive 24-hour traffic operation and multi-agency enforcement drive.

EpeInsights reports that the initiative, tagged “Operation Ember Months Stability,” is designed to enhance vehicular flow, discourage road indiscipline and maintain environmental order across major traffic corridors and nightlife zones as the city braces for the traditional year-end surge in movement.

According to a statement signed by LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the agency has intensified deployment across critical intersections and highways, including Ikorodu Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lekki-Epe Corridor, and Agege Motor Road.

The expanded coverage, he said, will provide round-the-clock monitoring to prevent gridlock and promote safety consciousness among motorists and commuters.

Bakare-Oki also revealed that the operation is being complemented by a multi-agency task force coordinated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa.

The task force, comprising agencies such as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), LAMATA, LAWMA, the Nigeria Police, and the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, has begun an extensive urban regeneration and environmental enforcement exercise across strategic areas.

He noted that recent operations at Apapa, Ijora, and Costain under-bridges led to the demolition of over 250 illegal shanties, removal of abandoned vehicles and evacuation of makeshift structures that previously obstructed vehicular movement and posed security risks.LASTMA Launches 24-Hour Traffic Management, Multi-Agency Enforcement Drive Ahead of Festive Season

“During the exercise, a dummy firearm and several dangerous weapons were recovered from a makeshift structure, underscoring the urgent need for the enforcement,” Bakare-Oki disclosed. “This validates the government’s commitment to preserving public order and safety.”

He added that commercial bus operators previously engaging in roadside loading within the cleared areas have been relocated to designated terminals, while the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has been directed to take charge of the newly reclaimed spaces, integrating them into the State’s mass transit infrastructure for better urban organization.

Demonstrating the agency’s emergency response capability, the General Manager cited LASTMA’s swift intervention during two major truck accidents in September 2025—one at Kara Bridge that claimed six lives, and another at Otedola Bridge the following day.

In both incidents, LASTMA’s rescue and recovery teams swiftly cleared the scenes, preventing further casualties and minimizing traffic disruptions.

Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to maintaining traffic discipline and ensuring smooth vehicular movement throughout the festive season, urging residents to cooperate with officials and obey all traffic regulations.
