The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has taken a strategic step toward deepening consumer rights advocacy among Nigerian youth by inaugurating the LASCOPA Community Development Service (CDS) Club at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State Secretariat in Surulere.
EpeInsights learnt that the inauguration, held on Friday, brought together officials from LASCOPA and the NYSC, as well as excited corps members ready to take on new responsibilities as consumer rights ambassadors across their various places of primary assignment and host communities in Lagos State.
Representing the General Manager of LASCOPA at the event, the Director of Consumer Education, Mrs. Folashade Ashaye, described the club’s launch as a major milestone in the agency’s effort to protect and promote the interests of consumers in Lagos.
She highlighted the vital role young people play in shaping a more responsible consumer culture, particularly in today’s fast-changing marketplace.
According to her, “The establishment of the LASCOPA CDS Club aligns with the Lagos State Government’s goal of inclusive governance and proactive consumer protection. By engaging youth, especially NYSC corps members, we are tapping into a vibrant and vocal segment of society that can champion meaningful change in consumer behavior and business practices.”
Ashaye encouraged the newly inducted club members to approach their roles with dedication and passion, urging them to act as community watchdogs and educators. She also assured them of continuous technical support and training from the agency to enhance their effectiveness.
Also present at the ceremony, the NYSC CDS Coordinator for Lagos, Mrs. Bunmi Oladokun, praised the collaboration as both timely and visionary. She noted that the partnership between NYSC and LASCOPA would significantly expand corps members’ knowledge and advocacy skills, while empowering them to contribute to better consumer protection outcomes in their communities.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by LASCOPA to promote consumer rights awareness across all levels of society, ensuring that every Lagos resident is informed, empowered, and protected.
