In a major crackdown on crime and drug abuse, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) has dismantled multiple criminal hideouts around Gowon Estate, Egbeda, arresting 19 suspects linked to drug trafficking and other illicit activities.
EpeInsights learnt that the raid, which took place earlier this week, exposed a disturbing collection of narcotics, including Indian hemp, Colorado and other hard substances.
Officers also discovered several bags of illegal drugs stashed in the boots of parked cars, turning the spotlight on how deep-rooted the criminal operation had become.
The Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, said the raid was part of an ongoing mission to restore sanity and security across the state’s urban and residential neighborhoods.
“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy towards activities that threaten the peace and safety of Lagosians. All arrested suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted accordingly,” he said.
He also reminded residents of the importance of community collaboration, encouraging the public to use the agency’s “See Something, Say Something” initiative to report suspicious activities.
This latest raid is the fifth in a series of targeted operations by the Taskforce as part of a broader campaign to eliminate the sale and abuse of hard drugs, especially in densely populated areas notorious for hooliganism and gang activity.
With this bold sweep at Gowon Estate, the Lagos Taskforce has once again demonstrated its resolve to curb urban crime and ensure a safer environment for all residents.
