In a promising move toward youth empowerment and job creation, the Lagos State Government has teamed up with Diageo Nigeria to train over 250 young people in hospitality, retail and entrepreneurship.
EpeInsights learnt that the initiative, part of Diageo’s global Learning for Life (L4L) programme, was officially launched on Monday, July 14, 2025, at The Wings Tower, Victoria Island.
The event marked the beginning of what many are calling a transformative opportunity for young Lagosians.
The Learning for Life programme is designed to equip young participants with hands-on, practical skills in high-demand sectors such as bartending, hospitality management, and retail services.
With Lagos being a cultural and commercial hub and its tourism economy expanding rapidly these skills are not just relevant; they are vital.
At the launch event, the Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, represented Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
In his remarks, he commended Diageo Nigeria for bringing the L4L initiative to Lagos, calling it a “bold step toward sustainable youth development.”
The Governor’s message highlighted how the programme aligns with Lagos State’s THEMES+ Agenda, especially in the areas of education, youth empowerment, and social inclusion.
“This partnership between Diageo Nigeria and the Lagos State Government is a shining example of how public-private collaboration can drive meaningful change,” he noted.
“It directly tackles unemployment by promoting real-world skills and entrepreneurship.”
What sets the Learning for Life programme apart is its long-term vision. It’s not just about training, it’s about creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods.
By preparing young people for careers in industries that are both growing and accessible, the programme lays a strong foundation for economic inclusion.
This public-private initiative reflects Lagos State’s broader commitment to building a skilled, future-ready workforce through collaboration and innovation.
As the training kicks off, more than 250 young people are stepping into a future filled with opportunity — and the ripple effects may just help reshape the employment landscape in Lagos for years to come.
