In an exciting new initiative aimed at nurturing creativity among young minds, the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has teamed up with tech innovator Plotweaver to launch a groundbreaking AI-powered Youth Storytelling Competition.
EpeInsights learnt that the competition designed for aspiring storytellers between the ages of 13 and 20 and promises to be a transformative platform for young voices to shine.
Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSFVCB, Mrs. Adebukola Agbaminoja, emphasized the importance of storytelling in shaping young lives.
“This competition is about more than just writing stories—it’s about unlocking the imagination of our youth, giving them the tools and confidence to express their unique perspectives,” she said.
What sets this competition apart is its use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance and support the creative process.
Thanks to Plotweaver’s innovative platform, participants will be able to craft narratives with the help of cutting-edge AI tools, bridging traditional storytelling with future-forward technology.
Mrs. Agbaminoja sees this as a powerful opportunity during the school holidays, urging parents, guardians and educators to encourage participation.
“Rather than idle time at home, let’s inspire our children to engage in something enriching and impactful,” she noted.
The initiative also reflects LSFVCB’s broader commitment to youth development and the cultural sector. “Storytelling is how we preserve our heritage and build a creative economy. We are proud to support projects that uplift the voices of young people,” she added.
Project Lead for the Lagos Youth Storytelling Competition, Mr. Oteme Oyo, explained that Plotweaver’s platform will serve as both a guide and evaluator—ensuring submissions are not only culturally relevant but commercially viable.
“This is about showing the positive power of AI in storytelling,” he said.
Chief Partnership Officer at Plotweaver, Mr. Ojo Olumuyiwa Johnson, described the competition as more than just a contest. “We’re building future leaders in the creative space—storytellers who can take Nigerian narratives from Lagos to the world.”
With this initiative, Lagos continues to blaze a trail in harnessing technology for youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and creative innovation.
