The Lagos State Government has once again demonstrated its commitment to quality education by recognising exceptional educators, students and staff of Education District VI at the 19th Annual Merit Award Ceremony, held at Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Oshodi.

EpeInsights gathered that the event, themed “Rewarding Excellence,” honoured high achievers across diverse categories including Best Principal, Teacher, School, Student, Non-Teaching Staff, Quality Assurance Officer, District Officer, Heads of Department, as well as NGOs and Alumni groups contributing meaningfully to the growth of education in the district.

Educators who have creatively embraced technology in teaching were also celebrated, reflecting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the awards as a strong incentive for sustained commitment to effective teaching and learning. “These recognitions show our teachers and students that their efforts are seen, valued, and rewarded,” he noted.

Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary for Education District VI, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, revealed that 42 students and staff across 106 schools received awards for their outstanding academic and extracurricular accomplishments. “Teaching is not just a profession, it is service, sacrifice, and inspiration,” she said.

Chairman of the event, Mr. Daniel Ayokanmi, congratulated the honourees and encouraged them to remain consistent in promoting excellence in education.

The evening concluded with the presentation of awards amid applause and commendation from dignitaries, stakeholders and invited guests.
