In a move to safeguard its urban development strategy, the Lagos State Government has announced a temporary suspension of all planning approvals along the route of the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.
EpeInsights reports that the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made the announcement on Monday, explaining that the decision is necessary to realign physical development plans in affected areas.
According to Dr. Olumide, the ambitious coastal highway has already impacted key planning projects, including the recently completed Ode-Omi Action Area Plan, the ongoing Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan and the Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan, which is still under development.
“Given the current realities, it has become essential to reassess the situation and ensure that development on the ground aligns with our broader urban planning goals,” he said.
“To prevent further disruptions, we are placing a temporary hold on all planning approvals in the affected corridor.”
The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has been directed to enforce the suspension until further notice.
Despite the pause, Dr. Olumide reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to creating a livable, inclusive, and sustainable city, noting that Lagos remains poised to benefit from the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road once fully integrated into the state’s long-term development vision.
