The Chairmen of Local Governments within Lagos East Senatorial District, operating under the umbrella of Conference 57 Chairmen, have called on residents to actively participate in the ongoing Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) registration exercise.
EpeInsights reports that the exercise, which commenced with online pre-registration on Monday, August 18, 2025, will be followed by physical registration from Monday, August 25, 2025.
The initiative targets all eligible voters across the district, encouraging them to secure their PVCs, exercise their franchise, and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
Speaking on the importance of voter registration, the Chairmen emphasized that the PVC represents more than just a card. They described it as a tool of empowerment that gives citizens the voice and authority to influence governance.
“Without your PVC, you surrender your voice; with it, you secure your future and shape the direction of leadership,” they stated.
The call was extended to residents across Epe, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Somolu, and Mainland local government areas. Youths, artisans, market women, professionals, community leaders and other eligible groups were specifically urged to take advantage of the registration window.
According to the Chairmen, broad participation is necessary to ensure that every segment of the population is represented in future elections.
The announcement was endorsed by Hon. (Princess) Surah O. Animashaun, Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government and Sub-Committee Chairman on Voters Registration for Lagos East Senatorial District.
She stressed the need for collective action in building a more inclusive and participatory democratic culture.
“Together, let us build a stronger democracy. Together, let us make every voice heard,” she said.
Observers note that the renewed push for voter registration comes at a critical period when Nigeria continues to grapple with issues of voter apathy and low turnout in elections.
By encouraging greater involvement at the grassroots level, the Lagos East council chairmen hope to set a model for civic engagement that will deepen democracy, empower communities and ensure that governance is more reflective of the will of the people.
