As part of activities to mark this year’s Isese Day, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, on Wednesday led a delegation of the Ministry’s staff to pay homage to four eminent traditional rulers across the state.
EpeInsights learnt that the royal fathers visited were the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu I; the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba (Dr.) Abdul Kabir Adewale Shotobi, who is also celebrating his 10th year on the throne; the Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi; and the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdul-Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal.
Speaking during the visits, Aregbe described Isese Day as a profound celebration of Yoruba culture, heritage and traditions, noting that the occasion underscores Lagos State’s rich ancestral roots which must be continually protected, preserved and promoted.
He also conveyed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s goodwill message to the monarchs.
At the Ikorodu palace, Aregbe congratulated the Ayangbure of Ikorodu on his 10th coronation anniversary and prayed for more impactful years of service to his people.
In his response, Oba Shotobi expressed appreciation to the state government for the honour of the visit and assured of Ikorodu’s unwavering support for initiatives that promote peace, unity, and cultural advancement.
He further highlighted ongoing collaborations with UNESCO on cultural preservation and unveiled plans for deeper engagements in the future.
The delegation also visited the palaces of Oba of Lagos, the Elegushi of Ikateland, and the Oniru of Iruland, where special prayers were offered for the progress of Lagos State and the well-being of its people.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Aregbe stressed that Lagos will continue to foster inclusivity, respect all religious beliefs, and promote cultural heritage and festivals as vital tools for unity, peace, and sustainable development.
