As part of this year’s Kayokayo Festival, the First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun, hosted a Qur’anic and Islamic Quiz Competition that drew wide acclaim for its role in nurturing intellectual and spiritual excellence among the youth.
EpeInsights reports that the event brought together participants from across the Epe Division, including representatives from Bado-Isale, Bado-Oke, Oke Oba/Popo Oba, Oke-Balogun, Oke Posun/Lagbade and Isale-Agoro.
It served not only as a platform for knowledge exchange but as a strategic initiative to position Epe as a center for Islamic education and cultural prominence.
Speaking at the event, Professor Nosirudeen Onibon, former Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), emphasized the importance of institutionalizing such competitions as a vehicle for national recognition.
“Competitions like this deserve more focus and structure. They can become the driving force that puts Epe on the map for state and national Qur’anic excellence,” Prof. Onibon said in an exclusive interview.
Winners across various categories in both the Qur’anic recitation and quiz components were honored with plaques and trophies, celebrating their academic and spiritual achievements.
The event also witnessed impassioned calls from community leaders for increased parental and clerical support in encouraging Islamic education.
Alhaja Kehinde Olusola Alade Raji, wife of House of Representatives member Hon. Wale Raji, advised parents to guide their children beyond mere recitation of the Qur’an toward deeper understanding and application.
“Understanding the meaning of the Qur’an shapes the moral compass of our children. It is an investment in their future,” she stated.
The competition was graced by key dignitaries including representatives of the Oloja of Lagos, the Grand Chief Imam of Epe, Alhaja Osiefa, and several community leaders.
The event forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen youth engagement through cultural and religious knowledge, while preserving Epe’s rich Islamic heritage.
