In a show of compassion and commitment to grassroots development, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu has extended financial support and food relief to residents of Agbowa–Ikosi Ejinrin, bringing smiles to the faces of many families and traders in the community.
EpeInsights learnt that the empowerment programme, tagged Ọ́kòwó Sketel, saw petty traders receive a cash gift of ₦50,000 each to boost their small businesses. Alongside this, food palliatives were distributed to households as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic hardship.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ogunkelu explained that the gesture was not only a way of celebrating his birthday but also a contribution towards Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration, marked annually on October 1.
He emphasized that the empowerment initiative was designed to give traders and low-income earners a financial lift while ensuring that families do not go hungry.
Residents of Agbowa–Ikosi Ejinrin expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. Beneficiaries, including market women and artisans, lauded the initiative, noting that the cash support would help them expand their trades and better provide for their families.
The empowerment drive, which began in Ikosi–Ejinrin LCDA, is scheduled to continue tomorrow in Eredo LCDA, where more residents will benefit from both the Ọ́kòwó Sketel initiative and food distribution.
Hon. Ogunkelu reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people at the grassroots, promising to continue rolling out sustainable empowerment schemes aimed at improving livelihoods across the local government areas.
The initiative has further cemented his reputation as a leader who prioritizes the welfare of his people, using personal milestones to make meaningful impact within his constituency.
