In a show of dedication to education and community empowerment, Hon. Prince Bayo Balogun, Member of the House of Representatives for Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency, has stepped in to provide urgent financial assistance to five indigenous students from the constituency enrolled in the Lagos State University (LASU) Sandwich Degree Programme at the Epe Campus.
EpeInsights gathered that the intervention was facilitated by youth ambassador and community leader, Ambassador SMASE Provost Ibraheem Ogunbanwo, who had earlier played a pivotal role in encouraging the beneficiaries to apply for admission.
According to Ogunbanwo, the financial support became necessary after LASU unexpectedly announced that examinations would commence earlier than September, a change that disrupted the students’ payment plans and placed them in a difficult position.
“By privilege, I presented this matter directly to our Honourable Member of the House of Representatives, whose passion for education is second to none,” Ogunbanwo explained.
“Without hesitation, he committed to assisting these students, even though he did not personally know any of them. That is the mark of true leadership.”
The beneficiaries include two students in their final year (Module 5), two in Module 4 and one in the first-year Module 1. For them, the financial aid came at a critical time, ensuring that they could meet their obligations and take part in the upcoming examinations.
This gesture has been widely praised within Ibeju-Lekki, with residents commending Hon. Balogun for his inclusive approach to community development, ensuring that opportunities are extended to all, not just a select few.
It comes as LASU prepares to resume academic activities following the end of an industrial action by staff, with the Vice Chancellor confirming that some of their demands have been addressed.
Ambassador Ogunbanwo expressed his gratitude to Hon. Balogun for his swift action and trust, pledging to continue prioritising the collective good of the constituency.
He also called on other community leaders to remain truthful, transparent, and committed to placing the interests of the community above personal gain.
