In celebration of the 60th birthday of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Harvey Road General Hospital, Yaba organised a free medical outreach aimed at improving community health and promoting wellness across the neighborhood.
EpeInsights gathered that the event, which took place on Tuesday, June 25, 2025, at the hospital’s car park, brought together health professionals, residents and volunteers for a day dedicated to preventive care and public health education.
The outreach featured free health checks, aerobic exercises, diabetes and hypertension screening, vital signs monitoring, medical consultations, and a blood donation drive—all offered at no cost to attendees.
Speaking during the event, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Folasade Fadare, stated that the initiative was designed to align public health promotion with the commemoration of the Governor’s milestone birthday.
She described the outreach as both a celebration of life and a demonstration of the hospital’s commitment to improving the health outcomes of Lagos residents.
“This is not just about marking a birthday. It’s about extending the Governor’s passion for the people by offering life-saving services that many in our community might not otherwise afford or access,” Dr. Fadare said.
She also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and continued investment in the state’s healthcare system, adding that initiatives like these are an extension of the broader health reforms taking place across Lagos.
Over 100 individuals participated in the exercise, receiving various medical services.
Of this number, nine participants were found to have serious health concerns and were promptly referred to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The event also featured health talks by medical personnel who educated the public on common chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and lifestyle-related conditions, emphasizing the importance of regular medical check-ups, physical activity, healthy eating, and early detection of ailments.
Residents who benefitted from the outreach expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful. Many noted that the opportunity to receive free healthcare services helped them better understand their health status and take proactive steps toward improved wellness.
The celebration concluded with an interactive session between medical staff and participants, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to community service, in line with the state government’s mission to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for all.
By using the occasion of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s 60th birthday to promote public health, Harvey Road General Hospital not only celebrated a leader but also championed a cause that touches the lives of ordinary Lagosians—healthcare.
