The Epe Local Government of Lagos State has launched a ₦10 million business grant scheme targeted at vulnerable youths and low-income earners across the council area.
EpeInsights believes that the move is to uplift residents and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
Under the initiative, 100 beneficiaries drawn from the eight wards of the council will each receive ₦100,000 monthly for a 20-month period — a structured empowerment plan aimed at boosting household income, supporting small enterprises, and promoting financial independence.
The Chairperson of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, announced the initiative during the official flag-off held at the Council Secretariat, Ita-Marun, Epe. She explained that the programme was designed to provide a sustainable lifeline for residents struggling with economic hardship.
“This grant will go a long way in supporting any serious woman or youth to start a business,” Animashaun said. “What is most important is how judiciously you utilize the money. Our goal is not just to give a handout, but a hand up, a push toward self-dependence, dignity, and renewed hope.”
The Council Chairperson reaffirmed her vision of building a self-sustaining and prosperous Epe, where every resident can thrive regardless of social or economic background.
She emphasized that the empowerment drive aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to strengthen social safety nets and promote inclusive growth at the grassroots level.
In addition to the cash grants, beneficiaries also received empowerment tools such as sewing machines, hairdryers, grinding machines, fishing nets, and safety jackets — all intended to support small-scale businesses and improve livelihoods.
Representing the beneficiaries, Mr. Fatai Oyesanya and Mrs. Funmilayo Oreagba expressed gratitude to Princess Animashaun for her continued support of the people of Epe, promising to use the grants responsibly to enhance their living conditions.
“This administration believes that true governance is not measured by the number of roads we construct, but by the number of lives we positively transform,” Animashaun added.
Through this initiative, Epe Local Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs, expanding economic opportunities, and ensuring that no resident is left behind in the journey toward sustainable development.
