In a heartwarming ceremony held at the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) headquarters, the Education District I has honoured the Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, and Commissioner II, Mr. Biodun Bamgboye, for their exemplary contributions to the advancement of education in the state.
EpeInsights reports that the award presentation, held at the Commission’s Conference Room, was part of the District’s Annual Merit Award for Outstanding Performances.
The event also served as a moment of reflection for the Permanent Secretary/Tutor General of Education District I, Mr. Bashir Adebowale Adeoye, who is preparing for his statutory retirement from the Lagos State public service.
Mr. Adeoye, while presenting the awards, commended the TESCOM leadership for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. “This is part of my legacy,” he stated.
“I couldn’t leave without honouring those who have stood by me and supported the progress we’ve made together. Mrs. Peregrino has been instrumental in these achievements, and I want to thank her and the commission for their support.”
He noted that under his watch, Education District I comprising Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Alimosho excelled not just academically but also in instilling moral values in students.
In her response, an emotional Mrs. Peregrino expressed her gratitude for the recognition, lauding Mr. Adeoye’s leadership and impact.
“I know Mr. Adeoye came to District I and redefined it,” she said.
“This honour reminds us all that positions are temporary. What truly lasts is how we behave and the legacy we leave behind. Let us always work with diligence and integrity.”
Mr. Bamgboye, who was also honoured, expressed surprise and appreciation.
“This was completely unexpected, and I am honoured. Mr. Adeoye has built something special in District I. The ideas he implemented and the structure he built have laid a strong foundation in the district. His legacy will speak for him,” he remarked.
He also encouraged education leaders to embrace collaboration and provide space for team members to contribute creatively.
The event was graced by senior TESCOM officials, staff of Education District I, and well-wishers who turned out to celebrate the achievements and legacy of Mr. Adeoye and the award recipients.
