As part of activities marking the 2025 Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in partnership with Power Oil Nigeria Limited and KissKids Nigeria, on Tuesday hosted the “Couples Wey Sabi” Market Fiesta at Oyingbo Market, Yaba.

EpeInsights reports that the lively, community-centred initiative aimed to promote gender equality, strengthen healthy relationships and reinforce shared responsibilities within marriage.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, represented by Mrs. Tope Ademola, reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through advocacy, education, and stakeholder engagement.

Vivour-Adeniyi stressed that the campaign seeks to challenge harmful stereotypes by encouraging men and women to jointly manage household responsibilities, while spotlighting the vital role of men in preventing domestic and sexual violence.

A major highlight of the fiesta was a cooking competition sponsored by Power Oil Nigeria, where couples role-played in teams to showcase their culinary skills and teamwork.

At the end of the contest, Mr. Lukman and Mrs. Yemisi emerged winners, expressing gratitude to DSVA for championing such an impactful and refreshing initiative.

Similarly, a childcare competition sponsored by KissKids Nigeria offered couples the opportunity to demonstrate parenting skills, underscoring that childcare is a shared responsibility. The winning team lauded DSVA and KissKids for using the platform to promote awareness on shared caregiving in homes.

The event was graced by the Iyaloja-General, the Baba Oja of Oyingbo and members of the market committee, who commended the Lagos State Government for bringing the campaign to their community.

Beyond the fun and excitement, the “Couples Wey Sabi” Market Fiesta successfully sensitised traders and residents on the values of equality, teamwork in marriage, and the collective responsibility to end Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Lagos State.
