In a commendable show of community partnership, Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, has donated five walkie-talkie devices to support the operations of the local security team in Ilara.
EpeInsights reports that the symbolic handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the university’s Senate Chamber, drawing praise from community leaders and university officials alike.
Leading the university delegation was Vice-Chancellor Professor Christopher Odetunde, who emphasized the donation as part of the institution’s wider corporate social responsibility efforts.
“This donation reflects our deep commitment to the safety and progress of Ilara,” Professor Odetunde said.
“We see ourselves not just as an academic institution but as partners in the development and protection of our host community.”
He noted that the communication devices would help improve emergency coordination and security response times, especially in high-stress situations where seamless communication is critical.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the community, Comrade Abdulrasaq Talabi, Chairman of the Ilara Community Development Association (CDA) and Head of the Ilara Security Team, expressed heartfelt appreciation.
“This is a timely and commendable contribution from Augustine University,” he said.
“It shows that the university is here not just to educate, but also to uplift and support its environment.”
Comrade Talabi noted that the new walkie-talkies would significantly enhance the community’s patrol, surveillance, and emergency response capabilities.
Also present at the event were key university officials, including Registrar Mrs. Margaret Aziba, Acting Bursar Mrs. Mary Ajibulu, Senior Assistant Registrar Miss Agatha Ajuka, and the Public Relations Officer Miss Moyinoluwa Ajayi.
Their presence reinforced the university’s unified approach to fostering stronger ties with the Ilara-Epe community.
