Political chieftain and grassroots mobilizer, Asiwaju Carlo Babatunde Sonupe, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing bold reforms and impactful governance as reasons for his support.
EpeInsights reports that during a solidarity visit to the Director-General of The Grassroot Movement for Asiwaju, Sonupe hailed Tinubu’s first two years in office as transformative, saying the administration’s policies have repositioned the country’s economy, infrastructure, and security architecture.
While acknowledging that some reforms have caused short-term discomfort, Sonupe emphasized their long-term benefits.
He praised key economic decisions such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market, which he said have boosted government revenue and reduced fuel importation by 50%.
“These reforms have enabled the redirection of funds into critical sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure,” Sonupe noted.
“Investor confidence is growing, and the Nigerian Stock Exchange is now one of the best-performing globally.”
Accompanied by youth leaders and representatives of civil society and professional groups, Sonupe commended the Tinubu administration for clearing inherited International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans, describing it as a major relief for the economy.
He also paid tribute to party leaders in Alimosho, expressing gratitude for the unity maintained in one of Lagos State’s largest local governments.
Sonupe credited Alimosho’s rapid development to President Tinubu’s visionary leadership, dating back to his tenure as governor.
He lauded the contributions of prominent local figures including Her Excellency Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire and Honourable Bisi Yusuf, calling for continued collaboration under the APC’s symbol of unity—a broom. “Together, as a bunch of broom, we can achieve great things,” he said.
Responding, Honourable Bisi Yusuf praised Sonupe’s loyalty and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s accomplishments.
He listed flagship projects such as the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Port Harcourt refinery rehabilitation, and the Student Loan Scheme which has so far attracted over 500,000 applications as evidence of progress.
Sonupe concluded that President Tinubu’s first term has laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s renewal, adding that a second term would allow for consolidation and delivery of long-term benefits to all Nigerians.
