Alhaji Tolani Abass, the Mogaji of the Abass family worldwide and a revered elder statesman from Epe, celebrates his 85th birthday today, a milestone that reflects a life of perseverance, purpose and service to others.

Despite the economic limitations that denied him access to tertiary education, he took it upon himself to continue learning enrolling in a correspondence course while supporting his family financially.
His early professional years were spent in the Nigerian civil service, where he built a reputation for excellence.
In 1977, however, he made a courageous decision to retire early and establish Alhaji Tolani Abass and Sons, a supply and contracting company. It was a risky venture, but it positioned him for greater impact.
His entrepreneurial breakthrough came during the administration of the late Governor Lateef Jakande (1979–1983).
With a leadership style that favoured merit and transparency, Jakande’s government enabled honest businessmen like Alhaji Abass to thrive.
Alhaji Abass attributes much of his success to this era, when contracts were awarded based on credibility not kickbacks.
