A Decade of Purpose: Augustine University Celebrates 10 Years of Faith, Knowledge, Growth

In a powerful blend of gratitude and vision, Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, marked its 10th anniversary on June 25, 2025, with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass, a celebration steeped in spiritual reflection, academic pride and community legacy.

EpeInsights reports that the milestone event, held at the university’s Chapel of Mary, Mother of the Church, was presided over by His Grace, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos and Proprietor of the institution.

In his homily, Archbishop Martins reminded the congregation that education should be more than the pursuit of certificates, it should be a journey into self-discovery, truth, and spiritual awareness.

“Education is not merely about acquiring knowledge,” he said.

“It is a pathway to discovering the truth about ourselves, our society and ultimately, about God.”

His words echoed the philosophy of St. Augustine, after whom the institution is named that “the heart is restless until it rests in God.” The Archbishop lauded the university’s mission of blending academic excellence with moral and spiritual discipline.

In a symbolic act of the school’s commitment to holistic education, 29 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation during the Mass, affirming their spiritual growth alongside academic progress.

The ceremony underscored the university’s Catholic identity and its mission to shape well-rounded leaders.

A Gathering of Builders and Believers

The event drew distinguished guests, including; members of the Board of Trustees and Governing Council, faculty and staff, parents and benefactors as well as community figures and former administrators

Among the high-profile attendees was Dame Doja Otedola, mother of the Chancellor, Mr. Femi Otedola, whose philanthropic support has been pivotal to the university’s rise.

Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Steve Afolami, attending with his wife, Prof. Carolyn Afolami, reflected on the university’s journey.

“To see what Augustine University has become in ten years is deeply moving,” he shared.

“We planted the seed with faith, and today we witness the fruit of hard work, sacrifice, and divine grace.”

Looking Back, Moving Forward

The celebration continued at the university’s Convocation Hall, where the official 10th Anniversary Brochure was launched, a commemorative publication filled with goodwill messages and reflections from stakeholders.

Closing the day’s events, Archbishop Martins reminded all present that while ten years may seem brief, the university’s impact is built for eternity.

“With God’s help, the impact of this institution will be eternal.”

As Augustine University looks ahead, the anniversary was more than just a look back — it was a reaffirmation of purpose.
