Ibeju-Lekki LG Hosts 2025 Spelling Bee Preliminaries, Winners Emerge

Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, in collaboration with the Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance, has hosted the 2025 Spelling Bee Competition Preliminaries, bringing together pupils and students from public primary and secondary schools across the council area.

EpeInsights reports that  the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, described the event as more than a contest of letters and words, but a celebration of knowledge, discipline, and confidence.

He encouraged participants to be bold and reminded them that success lies not only in winning but also in the lessons learned through the process.

At the end of the keenly contested event, Oddi Esther of RCM Primary School, Ayeteju, Okeeguale Glory of Local Government Primary School, Akodo, and Theodore Miracle of Community Primary School, Lakowe, emerged winners in the primary school category.

In the junior secondary school category, Oladokun Esther of Elemoro Junior High School, Obayemi Elijah of Junior Grammar School, Magbon Alade and Ojiaku Ugbana of Elemoro Junior High School came out tops. For the senior secondary school category, the winners were Ashikordi Eunice of Senior Grammar School, Magbon-Alade, Sanusi Nofisat of Community Secondary School, Akodo and Waheed Olamilekan of Community Grammar School, Magbon-Alade.

The winners will go on to represent Ibeju-Lekki Local Government in the next stage of the competition at the state level. The event also highlighted the council’s commitment to literacy, critical thinking, and quality education among young learners.

Dignitaries at the occasion included the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka; Deputy Leader, Hon. Musbau Shuaib Olorunju; former Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan; Council Manager, Mr. Oladipupo Otinwa, represented by the HR Director, Mr. Shotubo Adeyemi; Head of Education, Mrs. Ganiat Belo; Head of Environment, Mrs. Mary Akinola; as well as representatives of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) led by Comrade Kadiri Olajide.
